Joanne Rimmer is an Otolaryngologist who looks after people with ear, nose and throat problems. Her clinic is in Clayton, at 246 Clayton Road, Clayton VIC 3168. ENT can cover a lot of different issues, from everyday stuff like blocked noses to more complex, long-term conditions that need careful follow-up.
Over time, Joanne helps patients who have symptoms that just won’t go away, including chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps (CRSwNP). These can make it hard to breathe through your nose, affect smell, and lead to ongoing congestion and pressure. At times, people also feel stuck with reduced or no smell (anosmia), even after trying basic treatment.
Joanne also works with patients who need procedures and checks to understand what’s happening inside the nose and sinuses. Endoscopy is often part of the process, because it lets her have a closer look and guide next steps. In some cases, treatment may include surgery such as an adenoidectomy, especially for children where adenoids are causing ongoing blockage or ear and sinus problems.
Some presentations are more unusual, and Joanne is comfortable dealing with cases that can involve the nose, sinuses, and nearby structures in a detailed way. This includes issues like cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, where clear diagnosis and careful management matters. She also supports people with conditions that can affect airflow and mucus movement, such as ciliary dyskinesia and bronchiectasis, where symptoms may show up in the nose and airways together.
There are also rarer conditions that may come up in ENT care, and Joanne works to keep things calm and practical while the cause is worked out. This can include hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), where bleeding can be a feature, and other less common situations. She understands that swallowing, breathing, smell, and ear comfort all add up to day-to-day quality of life, so the plan needs to fit real life, not just the diagnosis.
