Patrick C. Reading is a Pulmonologist based in 792 Elizabeth St, VIC 3000, Australia. He works with people who have breathing and lung concerns, from common infections through to more serious chest problems. You might see him for things like coughs that won’t settle, chest infections, or times when breathing feels tight or hard.
In day to day practice, Patrick also looks after people dealing with a range of upper and lower respiratory illnesses. That can include flu and H1N1 influenza, RSV infection, parainfluenza and parainfluenza virus type 3, and pneumonia. At times, he may also help with conditions like pulmonary oedema, where fluid builds up around the lungs and breathing can get worse quickly.
He can also support care around infections that affect the throat and airway area. For example, that may include otitis, strep throat, and meningitis, depending on the situation. Some patients come with concerns about viral illness such as SARS, or other less common infections. In many cases, the goal is to work out what’s going on early, help with symptom relief, and plan the next step for treatment and follow up.
Patrick has experience caring for both adults and people in the community who need help understanding what their symptoms might mean. Over time, he’s seen how quickly respiratory illnesses can change, so he focuses on clear explanations and practical next steps. If there’s a need for further assessment or imaging, he’ll help guide decisions that fit the person’s health and the severity of the illness.
While he doesn’t treat every condition in one go, he’s there for the lung side of things. He may also be involved when patients have broader health concerns, including hairy cell leukaemia (HCL), or when there are other health issues affecting how the body copes with illness. Communication matters in all of this. The aim is to keep care grounded, calm, and focused on breathing, recovery, and safety.
